The city of Chillicothe is located in north central Missouri, at the intersection of highway 65 and highway 36, just one hour east of St. Joseph and an hour and a half northeast of downtown Kansas City.
Established in 1837 and named for the Shawnee Indian Chili-co-a-the, meaning Our Big Town, Chillicothe is self-proclaimed 'Home of the Sliced Bread', suggesting a local baker was the first ever to sell sliced bread.
